MP3 FAQ
If you are having trouble playing the music excerpts on this website, here are some
tips:
- The Microsoft player is "Windows Media Player". Its current version is 9.
- To configure Windows Media Player to play MP3 files:
- Open the Media Player
- Select Options from the Tools Menu
- Select the File Types tab
- Scroll through the File Types list to locate the "MP3 audio file" checkbox
- If this checkbox is unchecked or has a grey background, click it until a check mark
appears against a white background.
- Click OK
- Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 6, has built-in MP3 capability via its "Media
Bar", but we have been unable to use this feature to play the music excerpts-- the
Media Bar attempts to play the excerpts but gets stuck while displaying a
"Connecting" message. To prevent Media Bar from attempting to play the excerpts:
- In the Media Bar, click "Media Options"
- Click "Settings"
- UNCHECK "Play web media in the bar"
- If you succeed in playing the excerpts using the Media Bar, please contact us so that we can share this information with other website
visitors.
- Netscape users: if a dialog box appears, with caption "Opening [track name].mp3 ," select "Open it with the default application", uncheck the box "Always show this dialog box before handling files of this type.", then click "OK". The track will then play in Windows Media Player, if Windows Media Player is configured as explained above.
