Musical Instruments:

Haynes Flutes
The sweet tone, lyrical quality and clarity of the Haynes flute made it a natural choice for many of the flute composiitons contained in this series of albums.

Verne Q. Powell® Flutes
The albums herein also feature two different Powell Flutes, reknown for their richness of sound and graceful execution of virtuoso passages.

Takamine® Guitars
Though a student model, the guitar used in these albums produces a delightful, mellow and full sound.

Mario Gadda violins
Made in 1977, the violin is a relative "youngster" as violins go, but excels at uniformity and consistency of tone throughout its range.

Fatar keyboards
All keyboard accompaniments herein were recorded via MIDI electronic keyboard. The Fatar does an excellent job of capturing the performer's range of expression, which is no easy task, as there are 88 keys that must each "feel right" to the performer if a natual emulation of a piano or harpsichord is to be attained.

Electronic Hardware:

Neumann® Model M147 Vacuum tube microphones
A chain is no stronger than its weakest link. In a recording studio's audio chain, microphones impart their own "personality", or characteristics to any sounds they record. Neumann microphones were selected because of their lush, warm sound. Solid state microphones were auditioned, but rejected because of their generally cold and harsh sound quality.

Avalon Design Model Vt-747sp vacuum tube preamplifier
Vacuum-tube microphones deserve a vacuum-tube preamplifier to bolster the warmth of vacuum-tube sound.

Echo Digital Audio Corp. Gina Sound card
This computer peripheral card converted microphone signals to computer waveform files, and was also used for playback of stored waveform files during editing, mixing and production phases.

MidiMan® (now M-AUDIO®) MIDI interface
This computer peripheral converted MIDI sequencer commands representing keyboard accompaniment to MIDI bus signals so that the sound samplers could convert them to Piano and Harpsichord sounds.

Lexicon® MPX1 special effects module
Without ambience, studio recordings can sound as though they're made in a broom closet. Since renting a concert hall to record all of the sound tracks was impractical, adding ambience electronically was the best alternative.

Klipschhorn® studio monitor speakers
Horn-loaded speaker systems have a long reputation for superb sound reproduction, owing to the exponential horn's special acoustic properties.

Roland® JV-1010 Tone Module
A Roland synthesizer, or Tone Module, was used in the production of this series of albums for perfecting arrangements, and for preliminary "practice" recordings.

Kurzweil® MicroPiano® Tone Module
Some of the traditional tunes in the first album, Whispers on the Water, were recorded using the piano and keyboard sounds generated by this synthesizer.

Software Tools:

Syntrillium CoolEdit (now Adobe® Audition™)
This was the main waveform tool used for recording, editing, mixing and production of the sound tracks.

Cakewalk® ProAudio MIDI squencer
All of the keyboard accompaniments were recorded via this sequencer application.

GigaStudio® (now Tascam®) GigaPiano® and Giga Harpsichord sample sets
The characteristic sounds of the piano and harpsichords were captured by these "sampler" products, wherein every note of a Yamaha Acoustic Grand piano and an authentic Belgian harpsichord were recorded as individual sound files called "samples" and made available via MIDI technology for keyboard performance.

Corel® Photo-Paint®
Some of the artwork in the CD package and on this website was designed using Corel PhotoPaint.

Guitar Center®, San Jose, CA
Guitar Center was the vendor for most of the specialized hardware used in the production of this series of albums.
